SIMONE Winks says she relishes in the encouraging environment that the Girls Only Track Days provides and believes Saturday’s second edition of 2016 was no different.
“Girls Only Track Days are a great, no-pressure day where I can spend time focussing on my race-craft in an encouraging environment,” Simone said.
“I’ve met some great people and formed strong friendships with other like-minded women,” Simone, who has been involved in GOTDs since 2012, added.
The day included classroom coaching and on-track learning provided by some of the best coaches in the business including Chas Hern, and two-time Isle of Man champion Cameron Donald, as well as a great group of female coaches. “The coaches on hand provided some invaluable advice on improving my race-craft,” Simone said.
Simone also plans on competing in the upcoming 2016 Victorian Intraclub Series at Broadford on Sunday, March 20 but says the GOTDs aren’t specifically geared towards those riders who wish to compete: “Even if you have no intention of racing, doing a GOTD, particularly in this sort of environment, is a great way to focus on your riding skills without the dangers and distractions found on the road,” Simone added.
Simone says the GOTDs has definitely helped made her a better rider. “As I’ve now progressed from riding to racing, I find the days invaluable in improving my skills due to the relaxed atmosphere the GOTDs provide simply because I can relax my pace a bit and focus on trying different things,” she said.
Simone said she would like to thank all the GOTDs’ volunteers and sponsors and Motorcycling Victoria’s Peta Thomas for all the hard work that she puts in to the days, which is evident in the growing attendance numbers.
Peta Thomas said she was very happy with the continued strong attendance of the Girls Only Track Days. “It’s great to see numbers continue to grow at our much-loved GOTDs, but it’s even better to see the confidence grow in all of our girls whether they’re in the pits or out on the track, which is what it’s all about,” Peta added.
Peta would like to thank Shannons and Kawasaki for their continued support of the GOTDs, and especially Shannons for providing the opportunity for Cam Donald and his family to attend the day.
There are only two more Girls Only Track Days left for the year on Saturday, May 21 and Saturday, October 1.
