The 2016 Victorian Senior MX Championships headed to Wonthaggi for Round 3 where the riders were met with cold, wet and muddy conditions.
There was some fantastic racing over the whole weekend, so let’s make our way through the classes –
PRO LITES:
Kale Makeham won every race in Wonthaggi to extend his lead at the top of the Pro Lites standings. Tomas Ravenhorst made a return to the Victorian Senior MX Championship finishing in second place for the weekend and Joel Green rounded out the podium. Jesse McNally finished in fourth position on the weekend and has had a cracking last two rounds to find himself in equal fourth overall.

A LITES:
Sam Pelz was simply unbeatable over the weekend in the A Lites, the 17 year old winning every race for the weekend to have a 20 point lead over second place Jed Cornthwaite in the overall standings. Speaking of Cornthwaite, he finished runner up to Pelz in every race over the weekend to have a great Round 3.

B LITES:
Jai Constantinou, who has just been selected for the MV Elite Rider Training Camp, came out and took every race win for the B Lites at Wonthaggi. Angus Gelly, who sits in first place overall, came in second each time. Constantinou has been flying these last two rounds and has moved into second position on the overall standings with this round win. Bailey Williams picked up his first round podium in the B Lites, finishing in third overall for the weekend.

C LITES:
Mitchell Crowley, racing his first Victorian Senior MX Championship round for the year, came away with the second spot on the podium for the round with two second placings out of the three races. It wasn’t enough to overcome some great riding by Tom Sutherland though, who won two of three and came second in one. Alysha Goullet managed a third overall for the round and now finds herself in the top three in the overall standings heading into the final round.

PRO OPEN:
Tomas Ravenhorst and Joel Green continued their good weekend at Wonthaggi, taking out first and third respectively in the Pro Open class. Joel Milesevic was the man splitting those two riders grabbing a second overall for the weekend.

A OPEN:
It was a battle between three in this class – Lachlan Terry, Cory Watts and Tyler Lange took out the podium spots in just about all the races. Jack Walford the only other rider to finish on the podium for the weekend. Walford, along with Jayden Brewster and Corey Vanderlai, had consistent weekends racing.

B OPEN:
Angus Gelly continued on his merry way at the top of the B Open class, taking out a clean sweep of the races at Wonthaggi. William O’Neill and Jesse Smith, along with Mitchell Taylor, closed the gap on Cade Davey in the overall standings with consistent weekends of their own. O’Neill and Smith both finished with 92 points for the weekend, Davey with 67.

C OPEN:
Ashley Robinson took the lead of the C Open class following the round at Colac and at Wonthaggi that lead has been extended. Winning two of three races on the weekend, Robinson took the overall round victory ahead of Joshua Milz.

MXD A:
In a small turnout for the MXD A class at the Wonthaggi round, Wade Kirkland took out a win for each race with Sam Pelz and Wyatt Fogarty sharing the other podium spots for the weekend. Brock Waterworth came in fourth place in each race.

MXD B:
Jai Constantinou rounded out a productive weekend for him with two race wins in the MXD B class to take out the overall round victory. Ryan Kenney, Shane Mcdonald and Jake West had a great battle for the remaining podium spots in every race. Bailey Williams only had points in two of the three races but they were a second and third.

MXD C:
Liam Thompson took out the overall round victory with a clean sweep of the races for the weekend but it’s Alysha Goullet who finds herself on top of the overall standings three rounds in. For the third straight round Goullet found herself taking out the second place overall and that consistent racing is what has her on top of the table at the moment. Jacob Eustace and Josh Cations finished the weekend with 88 points each and it’s all set for a thrilling final round in this class. Only 38 points separating first and fifth.

LADIES CLUBMAN:
The results for the ladies clubman was almost identical to the way it went down in Colac – Madison Bird takes out the win in three out of three races, Fleur Barling took out second in three out of three races and Teala Petz took out third in three out of three races.

LADIES EXPERT:
In Colac it was Emma Milesevic with two wins and a second, Maddy Brown with one win and two seconds but in Wonthaggi the roles were reversed. Brown with two wins and a second, Milesevic with two seconds and a first. Courtney Whyte-Dennis just pipped Danielle Foot by one point to round out the podium in the weekends overall results.

OVER 30’s:
Steven Powell and Corey Vanderlai shared the firsts and seconds in the three races, with Matthew White coming in third each time over the weekend. Consistent racing by those three men across the three rounds so far, has them in the top spots in the overall standings. Luke Klaver, Luke Ablitt and Mick Dorman also had good rounds at Wonthaggi.

OVER 40’s:
Cameron Taylor continued his unbeaten run in the O40’s class to further extend his lead at the top of the table. Mike Reefman took out second spot in two of the three races, finishing in third in the other race. Mark Barker and Gavan Pengelly move up the overall standings with Alistair Maxwell not riding at Wonthaggi.

The final round of the 2016 Victorian Senior MX Championships is set to take place at Swan Hill Motorcycle Club on July 23-24. With a number of classes still close and the final standings up for grabs, it’s set to be a thrilling final round.
