The 2016 Victorian Junior MX Championships have now drawn to a close after a fantastic round up in Mildura hosted by the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club.
Congratulations to everyone on the running of a great Championship; the clubs, the riders, the volunteers, the officials, the parents and of course the MVMX Committee – well done to all!
Let’s make our way through the classes and see who the people are that have been crowned Champions for 2016!
50cc Div 2:
Kayd Kingsford has been the rider to beat all season and Billy Cameron has been the rider chasing him all season. It was a clean sweep across all the rounds for Kingsford, winning every race of the season. In his first round of the Championships at North West Vic, Jack Stoney came third in each race.
Overall Standings (end of season):
1. Kayd Kingsford
2. Billy Cameron
3. Auston Boyd
65cc A:
There was some great jostling for podium positions at North West Vic for this class – Gus Riordan, Ryder Kingsford and Ty Kean sharing the honors for much of the day, with Anthony Atanasovki grabbing a third in the first race. Riordan won the round though and came away as 2016 Champion.
Overall Standings:
1. Gus Riordan
2. Ryder Kingsford
3. Ty Kean
65cc B:
Brodie Pretschauer flew up the overall standings during this round at North West Vic and it was enough to get him on the bottom step of the podium for the season. Jackson Lyttle and Max Phillips made sure they finished in the top three with some great racing themselves. Blake Snow and Jake Galloway had a consistent days racing but the flying Pretschauer jumped ahead overall.
Overall Standings:
1. Jackson Lyttle
2. Max Phillips
3. Brodie Pretschauer
65cc C:
Ty Sharp came, he saw, he conquered. Sharp is the second rider so far this season to go through undefeated and take out the Championship. Jake Sanderson didn’t podium at North West Vic but had a good consistent days racing to finish in second overall, ahead of fast finishing Benjamin Lay, Jett Patullo and Jessica Robertson.
Overall Standings:
1. Ty Sharp
2. Jake Sanderson
3. Benjamin Lay
85cc/150cc SW A:
We’ve called these names before; Gus Riordan, Ryder Kingsford, Ty Kean and Anthony Atanasovksi. That’s how they finished in the SW A class overall. Riordan lost only one race in this class on his way to Champion and it came down to the final round at North West Vic to determine who would take out the second and third spots on the podium overall.
Overall Standings:
1. Gus Riordan
2. Ryder Kingsford
3. Ty Kean
85cc/150cc SW B:
Exceptionally tight racing at the top of the SW B class, only 23 points separating first and fifth (only 101 points from first to ninth). Madi Healey won the weekend at North West Vic but came an agonising three points shy of first place overall. With one race win and a second for the weekend, Billy Dwyer did enough to just hold onto the Championship. A win in the final race of the day ensured that Charlie Moller just finished ahead of Brodie Pretschauer (second for the round) in the overall standings.
Overall Standings:
1. Billy Dwyer
2. Madi Healey
3. Charlie Moller
85cc/150cc SW C:
Jett Patullo won the weekend at North West Vic but a third for the weekend was enough to see Seth Jackson hold onto the number one spot overall. This was another class where all the riders were extremely consistent across the whole series with 91 points separating first and eighth. Seth Rich came second for the weekend and that saw him hold onto second overall.
Overall Standings:
1. Seth Jackson
2. Seth Rich
3. Troy Mora
85cc/150cc BW A:
Another close finish, this time between Bailey Malkiewicz and Michael Murphy. Murphy took the honours at North West Vic over Malkiewicz but the roles were reversed in the overall standings, Malkiewicz holding on by 11 points to win the Championship. Liam Andrews was third for the weekend and third for the season.
Overall Standings:
1. Bailey Malkiewicz
2. Michael Murphy
3. Liam Andrews
85cc/150cc BW B:
Riley Fucsko has jumped over Tanesha Harnett at the final round at North West Vic to take out this class. He finished second for the weekend, Harnett finished in fourth and Cooper Krezlik finished third to have another tight finishing class. Fucsko, Harnett and Krezlik are separated by just nine points at the end of the season. Hugh Roache had a great weekend at North West Vic, coming away undefeated for the round.
Overall Standings:
1. Riley Fucsko
2. Tanesha Harnett
3. Cooper Krezlik
85cc/150cc BW C:
Layla Norton took out the round victory at North West Vic by a single point over Charlie Moyle and also took out the Championship for this class. Moyle also finished second for the season, 15 points ahead of Rohan Hayden-Edwards who just couldn’t quite get past him on the weekend. Zachary Pear had a very good weekend, finishing on the podium for a round for the first time this season.
Overall Standings:
1. Layla Norton
2. Charlie Moyle
3. Rohan Hayden-Edwards
100cc-125cc A:
It is another Championship for the Norton family for 2016 with Callum coming away with the overall victory in this class. A second and two race wins was enough for him to secure the round victory and the overall victory over Caleb Grothues and Cody Dyce. Riley Dukes and Bailey Malkiewicz also had solid weekends racing, both finishing in a tie for fourth.
Overall Standings:
1. Callum Norton
2. Caleb Grothues
3. Cody Dyce
100cc-125cc B:
Coming away from North West Vic undefeated meant that Jack Lawrence held on by 31 points over Callan O’Riley for the season victory. Seth Patience did all that he could to overtake O’Riley but fell just four points short of that second overall spot for the season. Josh Linthorne had another consistent round and that saw him claim fourth place in the Championship.
Overall Standings:
1. Jack Lawrence
2. Callan O’Riley
3. Seth Patience
100cc-125cc C:
Tyson Moras’ fifth place for the weekend was enough to see him take out the Championship in this class by ten points over Griffyn Pike, who finished third for the weekend. Ben Kessler came away with his second round win in a row and Jackson Barraclough racing his first round of the season finished second.
Overall Standings:
1. Tyson Moras
2. Griffyn Pike
3. Harrison Edwards
250cc A:
Cody Dyce had an undefeated weekend at North West Vic while the threats at the top of the overall standings (Callum Norton, Morgan Fogarty etc.) weren’t quite so smooth. Michael Driscoll came second for the weekend after a couple of second placings and Riley Dukes came away with the third after finishing third in a couple of races.
Overall Standings:
1. Cody Dyce
2. Callum Norton
3. Morgan Fogarty
250cc B:
Another tough class to split with any of the top four being able to go on and win the Championship. It was a couple of newcomers who took the top two podium spots for the weekend though; Aaron Mason first and Connor Adams second. Seth Patience finished third for the weekend and that’s also where he ended up for the season. Eight points ahead of him was Hayden Rouse and then a further eight points ahead is new Champion, Josh Linthorne.
Overall Standings:
1. Josh Linthorne
2. Hayden Rouse
3. Seth Patience
250cc C:
A first, a third and a fourth saw Nathan Brown take second spot on the podium for the round at North West Vic and that second helped him finish on top in the overall standings. Wyatt McLaughlin took out the round win and fell seven points short of jumping Jonathan De Jonk for second for the season.
Overall Standings:
1. Nathan Brown
2. Jonathan De Jonk
3. Wyatt McLaughlin
Girls:
An unbelievably close finish to the Girls class in the 2016 Championship. Just three little points separated Tanesha Harnett and Emilee McPherson at the top of the table. Two wins and a second for Harnett saw her take out the round victory and that also snatched the season victory for her. McPherson had a win, a second and a third for the round to cap off a great season with a second for the final round.
Overall Standings:
1. Tanesha Harnett
2. Emilee McPherson
3. Ebony Harris
Once again congratulations to all people involved in the 2016 Victorian Junior MX Championships, we’ve had a truly fantastic season!
A big hand for the hard work put in by the MVMX Committee throughout the year to run the Championships and make them what they are, well done to you all!
