The fourth and final round of the 2017 Victorian Junior MX Championships will take place this weekend down at the Wonthaggi Motocross Track and one of the riders ready to tackle the weekend head on is Montana Bardel.
Montana is currently competing in the Girls Class and this is her first year taking part in this class.
“I wasn’t old enough last year to race in the Girls Class so I just competed in the Gippsland Regions in the 65cc class,” Montana said.
Montana has one goal for the 2017 Victorian Junior MX Championships this year and so far she is achieving it.
“My goal this year was to finish top ten in the Girls Class and after the first round I was in fifth overall.”
“I had been holding on to that until a bad round at Rosebud and I dropped to sixth, with only two points separating fifth and sixth I hope to be able to get those points back.”
“I’d love to finish the Championships off with three good races and a good round but whatever happens I am happy with my results as I’m only riding a KTM 85cc SW.”
Montana prepares for racing by doing a bit of riding but also taking part in a few other sports to keep her fitness up.
“I play representative basketball and football, so I’m training twice a week for those and that keeps me fit. When I’m not racing we ride at Park4MX or clubs that have open days.”
“Coming into the final round, I hope to be able to carry my speed that I had at Hattah.”
When asked what she enjoys about the Victoria Junior MX Championships, Montana said:
“I love the Championships as it gives me the opportunity to race with girls from other regions and make new friends. Although it has been challenging as I am on a small cc bike up against the girls on bigger cc bikes, the new experience I’ve gained by riding with them will hopefully make me a better rider.”
The final round of racing for the Victorian Junior MX Championship is this weekend (Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd July) at the Wonthaggi MX Track.
