Albury-Wodonga Motorcycle Club will conclude the 2016 Skylift Short Track Summer Series this Saturday night, February 13 with Round 3 at the Diamond Park Circuit, Lincoln Causeway.
To complete the series the club has planned a huge night of entertainment. In addition to the exciting completion of the short track series, the evening will include with Freestyle MX performances and throughout the event a DJ will provide music from the track infield to keep the crowd entertained.
The first two rounds of the series saw incredibly close battles in all classes and with a maximum of 100 points available to each rider in the final round the winners are far from decided.
In the PRO OPEN class local Josh Antone leads the way, however only 26 points separate the top four with Chris Seaton, Mark Jones and Jesse Davies all battling for overall series honours. In the PRO 450 the same four riders are in contention with only 22 points separating first to fourth.
Banjo Rogers leads the way in PRO 250 but again the battle is close, 14 points covering the top three contenders in this class and local Motocross rider turned Short Track racer Bradley Whitehouse is out to prove he can win in both forms of racing.
Similar tight scores cover many of the Junior classes, and the points situation in most events means there will be some epic battles as the night wears on with every rider out to maximise their score.
In a first for the Albury-Wodonga Motorcycle Club, the event will include with Freestyle Motocross displays by local riders Alex Bucholtz and Codie Rooney.
These two travel the length and breadth of Australia most weekends to perform in shows but very rarely get the opportunity to perform in front of a home crowd. A purpose built ramp has been constructed on the infield of the racing circuit which the two riders will use to present an exciting display of aerial tricks throughout the evening. Both are incredibly excited to be performing at home and will be putting on display their best show possible.
The conclusion to the night will be the fifth annual running of the Sam Baker Plate which honours one of the clubs own who was badly injured in an accident several years ago. This is an invitation event held over 10 laps for the top eight riders across the series. The extra distance in this race sees riders using various strategies to reach the front at the finish line and provides a whole different aspect to short track racing.
Gates open at 4pm and a full canteen service will be operating. As the following day is Valentine’s Day there will be a lucky gate draw presenting the winner dinner for two generously provided by the Bended Elbow hotel.
