KILSYTH road racer Drew Sells will be throttling towards the top step of the podium when the opening round of the 2016 Motul Pirelli Victorian Road Racing Championships takes place at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex at Broadford on April 9-10.
Drew, 17, finished runners-up in the 300 Production class at last year’s VRRC in November and is hoping to go one better at this year’s revamped four-round competition. “It was a difficult weekend last year.
“Our set-up wasn’t fantastic but we still finished second so we’re hoping to go that one step further and win a state title like we did two years ago,” Drew , who’ll be aboard the Peter Stevens Motorcycles Race Centre-prepared Ninja 300, said.
Drew recently competed in the opening round for the 300 Production class at the ASBK at Wakefield Park in NSW on March 26-27. “I managed to achieve a third-place on the podium with a 3-2-4 result.
“It was good to start the year off on a high and get some good points and build a strong base at the start of the year,” Drew continued.
Drew impressively broke three personal-best lap records in the 300 Production class at the 2015 Australian Superbike Championships at the last round at Phillip Island in October and finished second overall behind series winner Justin Hall from New South Wales.
“I’d like to go one step further this year and get the overall win,” he added.
Drew is looking forward to the huge grids at the opening round of the VRRC: “I really think there are going to be big fields this year,” Drew believes. “Hopefully the weather is really good and we get some really good racing up there,” he added.
The Motul Pirelli Victorian Road Racing Championships will take place over four rounds in 2016 with Round 1 at Broadford (April 9-10), Round 2 at Phillip Island (August 27-28), Round 3 at Broadford (September 24-25) and Round 4 at Broadford (November 12-13).
The State Motorcycle Sports Complex is located just an hour-and-a-half away from Melbourne on the Hume Highway.
Drew would like to thank Peter Stevens Motorcycles, Race Center, Kaneg, Oilee Racing and his Mum and dad for all their support throughout the season.
