15-YEAR-OLD Harrison Powell is looking forward to debuting in his first-ever M2R 2016 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships Presented by Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories when it kicks into high-gear this weekend at the Korumburra Motorcycle Club at Outtrim, March 12-13.
“I’m very keen to compete in this year’s competition, definitely,” Harry, who’ll be competing in the 125cc C Grade class on the weekend, added.
“I’m not sure how I’ll go but I’m hoping to go alright,” Harry said.
Harry started riding motorbikes on his family farm in Dhurringile, just outside of Shepparton, and impressively rebuilt his old bike himself when he was just 13-years-old and started competing in club events at the Bendigo Motorcycle Club last year.
He has also just purchased a new bike for this season and is working part-time at MacDonald’s to pay it off. “I really enjoy the adrenaline rush of the sport.
“I competed in the club championships at Ravenswood last year and got better as the season went on,” Harry said.
“At the start of the year I was finishing at the end of the pack and towards the end of the year I was finishing in the middle of the pack,” Harry said.
“I feel like I’m improving,” he added. “Over summer I’ve been doing a lot of practice days at Yamaha Park4MX at Broadmeadows,” he said.
Fortunately for Harry, he is a big fan of the motocross track at Korumburra: “I really like the track at Korumburra. I like the jumps and it’s a fast track.
“I’ll be competing in the 125cc C Grade this season and I hope to move up into the senior ranks and into A Grade next year,” Harry added.
“It’s the last year that I can compete in the VJMXC so I didn’t want to regret not doing it. It’ll be great experience,” Harry, who is also on the lookout for sponsors, added. He can be contacted at harrypowell45@hotmail.com.
