WITH ONLY one round remaining, Mildura’s Max Phillips is in perfect position to claim the 65cc B Grade title in Victoria’s premier motocross competition for juniors – the M2R Helmets 2016 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships Presented by Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories.
Max picked-up 80 valuable championship points despite experiencing bike difficulties during his first race in the 65cc B Grade class on Saturday, May 7 at the Ararat Motorcycle Club.
“Unfortunately in the first race, my bike wouldn’t go as fast as it normally does but I couldn’t pull-in because I knew I needed points to stay up the front,” Max said.
He then picked up the pace in Race 2 where he finished third, and went even quicker in Race 3 finishing in a well-earned second place and a second-place overall for Round 3. Max also competes in the 85/150 4-stoke Small Wheel B grade class where he is currently sitting sixth overall.
“The results wasn’t really what I was going for this weekend but we still have the final round at home in Mildura to achieve some good results,” Max added.
“My goal is to definitely win the 65cc B grade title at home,” Max, from Gol Gol, added. “That would be a dream come true,” he added.
“We’re looking forward to not travelling as far as we’ve had recently. The Northwest Victorian Motorcycle Club hosts terrific events like the Hattah Desert Race every year and the final round in June will be no different,” Max said.
Max won the 65cc 7-Under 9-years-old class at the Hattah Desert Race in 2014 and would also like to win the 65cc 9-Under 12-years-old class this year. “Hattah is a fantastic event and so much fun. I’m really looking forward to it,” Max added.
Max and his Mum, Kellie Phillips, would like to thank NWVMC, and everyone involved on the Motocross Management Committee. “They do tremendous work so I’d like to thank them for all that they do,” Kellie said.
The penultimate round of the M2R Helmets 2016 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships Presented by Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories takes place at Mildura on June 11-12. Entries for the final round close Monday, June 6. For further information please visit: www.motorcyclingvic.com.au.
