BALLARAT’S Joel Milesevic emphatically won the Pro Open class at the opening round of the Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories 2016 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships Presented by Bridgestone at Newborough’s Blue Rock Motorcycle Club on Saturday, March 5.
The 19-year-old won the class by 6 points ahead of the likes of Jay Wilson and Joel Green.
Joel was very pleased with his opening round performance: “It went really well. Everything went to plan. I wasn’t really sure what to expect as I hadn’t been in a high-level race since the last round of the VSMXC and I wasn’t really well back then because of all my injuries,” he said.
Joel won Race 1 by more than 11 seconds and Race 2 by a commanding 17 seconds. “It was a bit tight in the first race as I haven’t been able to do much testing in pre-season. “The track at Blue Rock got really rough today, which was good.
“I enjoy rough tracks and it was good leading up to the MX Nationals as all the tracks there are pretty much all rough. If I can carry this momentum into the MX Nationals then I’ll be happy with that,” Joel added.
Joel will be competing in the MX1 class at the 2016 MX Nationals which starts in Horsham in April. “I don’t really know what to expect leading into the MX Nationals as I haven’t raced the Nationals in over a year now so hopefully it all goes well.
“It’ll be a stacked field in the MX1 class but it doesn’t mean I won’t be able to finish in the top five which is my main goal for the MX Nationals. I’ll just take it as it comes. Consistency will be the key,” Joel added.
For his goals in the VSMXC, Joel remarked: “Position wise, obviously, I want to win. But my biggest goal is jut to keep riding in the way that I know I can and the way that I have been trying to for the last few years.
“All the pieces of the puzzle are slowly falling into place. I got a new 250cc 2 –stroke bike, which I really enjoy riding. I also have a bit of a heavier build this season,” Joel added.
Joel would like to thank Maddalon Motorsports who says have helped him a lot this season. “They’ve done a lot for me, and are planning to do more, so I can’t thank them enough for that,” Joel praised.
He would also like to thank Mad Brothers Earthmoving, Cars R Us, Full Force Suspension, Ride Park Victoria, Flightpath Materials, Golden Tyre, SK Designs Australia and Mototech, and his parents for all their support too.
Round 2 of the Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories 2016 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships Presented by Bridgestone takes place at Colac on April 23-24.
Emma Milesevic ties in second-place in injury return
Emma Milesevic tied in a well-deserved second-place with Geelong’s Danielle Foot, and finished just 8 points behind Ladies Expert class leader, and current Australian Women’s motocross champion, Maddy Brown from Seville East.
Emma, who suffered an injury in August last year, said it was great competing in the opening round of Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories 2016 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships Presented by Bridgestone.
“I felt really good. I’m feeling good on the bike again and I really feel I’ve got what it takes to be right up there this season. I’ll keep working at it during the next few weeks because going into Colac I really want to do well,” Emma said.
Emma was just 6 seconds behind Maddy Brown in Race 1 and finished in a well-earned third-place in Race 2. “I got the holeshot in the last race, which was really good, but coming off the second corner I lost it at the ski jump.
“It was really slippery. I winded myself a bit but I got up and was about half a track length behind the other riders,” she recounted.
“However, I got up and made a good charge through the pack and managed my way into third and nearly got second. It was a good race, I was riding well. I really enjoyed the rough track but just didn’t have enough time to get the result that I wanted but that’s OK,” Emma said.
“I really want to do my best at Colac and keep working hard towards it and come out with the best result possible. I’ll just try and stay clean and smooth throughout all my races and hopefully come out with the win,” she added.
Emma would like to thank Yamaha Motors Australia, Flightpath Materials, SK Designs Australia, Gas Imports, Thor, Spy, Michelin, GYTR, Yamalube, Ride Park Victoria, Full Force Racing Suspension, and her parents for all their amazing support throughout the season.
