KURTIS Missen is eager to get his 2016 season on the right track as the opening round of the M2R 2016 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships Presented by Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories gears-up at the Korumburra Motorcycle Club in Outrim next weekend, March 12-13.
The 12-year-old from Somerville is looking forward to competing for the first time in the 85cc Big Wheel class on the weekend. “This will be my first season in the 85cc Big Wheel class. Last year I competed in the 65cc C Grade class and finished 13th in my first year of competition. I had some bike trouble at Maffra-Sale and I was sick for another round but I was pretty happy it,” Kurtis said.
“In my first race at Blue Rock MC I finished in eighth-place, which I was very happy with. I was doing some good double-jumps on that track,” he added.
On Korumburra’s track, Kurtis is a big fan: “I really like the far-back tabletop. It’s really fast and I like the ruts, as well as the finishing tabletop,” he added. He also lists Yamaha Park4MX in Broadmeadows and Rosebud as his other favourite tracks in Victoria.
Asked why he loves the sport, Kurtis replied: “Most of my friends compete in motocross so I get to hang out with them almost every weekend. It’s great fun,” he continued.
Kurtis also has big plans in the sport of motocross: “I’m hoping to win the 85cc BW title this year. Every year after this one, I want to go up another grade from B Grade to A Grade and hopefully clear all of them out,” he said.
“The World Junior Motocross Championships are also coming to Horsham in 2018 and I would really like to be able to compete in that.
“For my future goals, I would like to go to America and be like Chad Reed and race in the AMA Supercross and motocross competitions,” he explained.
Kurtis would like to thank Yamaha Park4MX, Cheyne Boyd, and his parents for all their help and support.
Round 1 of the M2R 2016 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships Presented by Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories takes place on Outrim-Leongatha Road, in Outrim on the weekend of March 12-13.
