KORUMBURRA Motorcycle Club president Graham Bird lavished praise on his dedicated team of volunteers who helped host a very successful opening round of the M2R Helmets 2016 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships Presented by Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories on the weekend, March 12-13.
Well-over 300 competitors and their families converged on Korumburra MC on Outtrim-Leongatha Road in Outtrim for the state’s premier motocross competition for juniors.
“The track was really good. We got lots of moisture in the corners and it turned out to be quite good so all of our efforts paid-off,” Graham said.
Korumburra witnessed some fantastic racing particularly in the Honda 250cc A Grade class with the likes of Cody Dyce, Callum Norton, and Caleb Grothues from Western Australia all turning it on in some close and exciting racing.
“I got a couple of texts from people that I know in the motocross community and they were all very positive and the Motocross Management Committee were all very flattering in their report at the end of the weekend, which is always nice to hear.
“It’s always nice to have a great venue at the end of the weekend.
“We see it as a privilege to host these type of events, not every club gets to host one, but it’s a feather in our cap to be able to keep doing it and to receive good feedback,” Graham added.
Graham would like to give a big thank-you to his team of volunteers who hosted such a successful opening round of the VJMXC.
“We had lots of people helping. Lots of ladies in the canteen, lots of Dads out there watering the track throughout the day. Any problems that arose we always had someone to look after it,” he continued.
“According to one of the Stewards we got through the first round of racing in under two hours, which was good. You can have great facilities but the people make the club and make the days run well,” Graham added.
His sons Charlie Bird finished in a respectable eighth overall in the 50cc 7-under 9-years-old Division 2 class and Henry Bird finished tenth overall in the 85/150 4st BW C Grade.
“The highlight of the weekend was the calibre of riders in the 125cc-250cc A Grade classes. We had riders from all across the country compete, it was like a mini national event,” Graham added.
The next club event will be the KMCC Club Championships with the opening round taking place on April 2-3. For more information please visit: www.kmcc.com.au.
