The 2017 KTM Australian Junior MX Championships were held over the past week and our very own Horsham Motorcycle Club played the role of hosts.
With close to 400 riders in attendance, the club put on a fantastic track and display and (along with the great racing on the track) kept people entertained for the week.
Motorcycling Victoria spoke with Club President Kenny Watts about how the club coped with the week and how they thought the week went –
“As a club we couldn’t be happier with the format and new inclusions we added to the event,” Kenny said.
“Unveiling the new startline gantry, which is something not seen worldwide, is now another prominent structure that says HORSHAM when you see it. Similar to the shade sails which proudly took the focal point for our 2017 KTM AJMXC logo.”
“We were blessed with ideal weather, a few overcast days keeping the track moist early in the week and then 26 degrees on the day we held the presentation for qualifiers medallions to finalists was ideal for the outdoor presentation.”
“The track was completely redressed for the final two days and the track provided was ideal for close hard racing for a national title.”
“It was all topped off with a great night for the presentation of 13 new Australian Champions and the State Cup (taken out by NSW) and the Oceania Challenge (won by Australia).”
“All in all it was another awesome event in Horsham and now we start building up to the 2018 World MX Juniors.”
Most importantly, Kenny and the club would like to thank a number of people that made the week what it was –
“Being a small club and a lot of members aren’t from our region it really makes catering, track management and just race control really reliant on friends of the Club. They really came through to make our event the best Aussies for families, that travel from every state of Australia and overseas, an event to remember.”
“As a club we thank everyone that came in and helped run this event. Being a club that has run a lot of major events, we have a large group of friends that enjoy being at Horsham helping keep our club one of the top in the country!”
Congratulations to the Horsham Motorcycle Club on a well run event and to all the people that chipped in and helped out, thank you!
