One of the biggest events in Australia is taking place this weekend in Victoria, hosted by the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club – the Hattah Desert Race.
Dean De Fazio is a rider who took part in the race last year, competing in the 250cc Class but unfortunately he won’t be able to ride in this years edition of the event.
“No, I’m not taking part in Hattah this year unfortunately but it sounds like I’m going to miss out!” Dean said.
“Hopefully next year I will be able to get back and compete in this amazing event again.”
Dean was an attendee at the 2015 Elite Rider Training Camp, at the time still a Junior rider but by the time the 2016 Hattah Desert Race came around he was competing in the Senior ranks.
“My first Senior race at Hattah last year and I managed to finish 31st outright and fourth in my class, I was shocked at first.”
“My little 250cc struggled down some of the straights last year but it still managed to pull some awesome results for me.”
When asked about his preparation last year for such an event, Dean said that it all came down to the bike really.
“Last year I spent endless hours on and off the bike training and preparing for Hattah. When I wasn’t on the bike I spent most of my time fine tuning the bike.”
“I also focused on getting the right diet to keep my energy levels up for the race.”
As one of the largest events to take place in this country, there is a great atmosphere around the weekend. Whether that be in the pits, on the start line or on the Friday night as scrutineering is taking place and there is always a decent crowd on hand to watch proceedings.
“What I enjoy most about Hattah was the track conditions and speed. Flying down those long straights, fifth wide open, is an amazing feeling. Also the crowd cheering you on as you fly by, I was surrounded by great people the whole weekend.”
