One of the biggest events in Australia is taking place this weekend in Victoria, hosted by the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club – the Hattah Desert Race.
We spoke with Jennifer Gledhill, the Hattah Coordinator, and asked just a coupleĀ of questions that people might want to know as we approach the event.
MV: How are the tracks looking?
Jennifer Gledhill: Magic! Junior tracks will be exciting for the kids with increased track lengths so that we can ensure the track remains in top condition throughout the duration of the race which will ensure rider safety. It’s a more enjoyable but technical ride.
The Senior track is in the best condition it possibly could be in! It’s in immaculate condition for racing. It’s well marked and it’s flowing. There’s a chance it could be a little dusty depending on the next 72 hours, however as we write this it is raining so fingers crossed.
MV: What’s the weather supposed to be doing this weekend?
JG: Dry and sunny.
MV: What has the club been doing recently to prepare for the weekend?
JG: There’s been the track preparation, cleanup of pit areas, installing new fencing for the new pit areas; we’ve introduced a family area this year and extended the pits slightly. We’ve moved the Officials area to combine it all in the starting area and there are additional gated areas to facilitate the movements in and out of the pits.
MV: What does the club have left to do to prepare for the weekend?
JG: Just bringing it all together – all the volunteers have their own areas of expertise, which they do extremely well. This week all those individual efforts come together to form the event that is Hattah.
MV: What can the riders expect from Hattah this year?
JG: A typical Hattah – tough, gruelling, the BIGGEST field ever – but satisfying when you see that chequered flag!
