One of the biggest events in Australia is taking place this weekend in Victoria, hosted by the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club – the Hattah Desert Race.
Beau Cairns has never raced the Hattah Desert Race before but that hasn’t stopped him having a great time each time when he has come up to watch the event.
“I’ve travelled from Ballarat to watch the race for the last four years with family, around ten of us come up and camp for the weekend. Everyone is so friendly and always makes you feel welcome,” Beau says.
“Although I haven’t raced Hattah before, I love the desert, the bikes, the atmosphere, the smell of burnt few on a race day and the family orientated weekend.”
So if someone has never participated in a Hattah event before you’d think there might be a bit of a change to routine to prepare for it – especially for someone who only rode their first competitive enduro event earlier this year (Round 2 of the NWVMCC Club Enduro Series), Beau has certainly done some additional preparation to get ready.
“I’ve completed changed my diet to give me more energy and endurance. I’ve always gone to the gym but in preparation for Hattah I’ve changed my training program to consist of more strength and endurance training.”
“I’ve adopted a few tips from some of the Pro guys and incorporated them into my routine.”
Beau will be competing in the Over 450cc 4-stroke class and his brother Luke will also be competing in the 251cc & Over 2-stroke class.
“I’m looking forward to spending time with family and friends and also for Friday night to get a feel for the atmosphere and to kick off the weekend.”
“Given I’ve never raced in Hattah before, I am excited to see how I go in prologue and on Saturday and then, of course, the main race.”
“I’d like to thank Motorcycling Victoria and North West Victorian Motorcycle Club for putting together such a prestigious event, the landowner for use of their land and all of the volunteers that help make this event possible.”
“I also want to thank my family and friends who will be coming along and also my brother, Luke, for being my training buddy.”
