FRAN HEATH of Fitzroy North believes that Girls Only Track Days have taught her the necessary skills for her to become a better rider.
“GOTDs are a rewarding experience. They give you the confidence and the ability to get to that next level whatever your ability may be,” Fran, who tried her first GOTD last year, said.
“When you get off the track, you take that confidence with you,” she added. “You can practice techniques that you wouldn’t really be able to practice when you’re out on the road. But mainly, the other girls involved are really awesome.
“As a beginner myself, watching the intermediate and advanced girls go around is inspirational,” Fran, who rides recreationally as much as possible, added.
“GOTDs teaches me a lot about myself as a rider. They’re really challenging. When I started out I was dragging my feet and now I’ve learnt the correct body position on the bike,” she said.
Fran would definitely recommend the GOTDs to any ladies out there thinking of giving it a go: “I ride with a lot of ride groups and a lot of them share the same thoughts. It’s a really welcoming environment and I would definitely recommend it for a personal thing to do,” Fran added.
In a special visit, the Minister for Women, the Hon. Fiona Richardson MP, will call in on Broadford’s State Motorcycle Sports Complex next Saturday, May 21 to find out what a GOTD is all about. “It’s fantastic to have the Minister for Women come along and check out our GOTDs,” Peta said.
“I’d really like to thank the lovely Peta Thomas who encouraged me to try out a GOTD and would like to thank my partner for coming along to the days too. Having them there as cooks and mechanics and moral support throughout the day definitely helps. It’s great to have the boys there help out,” Fran added.
GOTD sponsor Shannons is for the final GOTD in October offering the chance to win a one-on-one coaching session with Isle of Man TT champion Cameron Donald. To find out more please visit: www.motorcyclingvic.com.au/women.
