The fourth and final round of the Victorian Senior MX Championships is on this weekend with Albury-Wodonga Motorcycle Club playing host to an expected number of approximately 180 riders.
Club President, Shane Clare, says that the club has been preparing for this event for a long time now;
“The club has been preparing for this event for most of the year, our Vice President Carson “Dudes” Jory has spent most of his free time working on the track since January,” Shane said.
“He and his crew of Jake Arnold, Wilba O’Neill and Mitch Drummond have done a terrific job of reshaping corners and berms, adding new material to the surface and tinkering with a couple of obstacles.”
The Albury-Wodonga MCC also has a great relationship with the local community and have had students from Wodonga Senior Secondary College (completing VCAL) at the track each week completing odd jobs and maintenance, as well as Corrections Victoria who provide the same assistance.
“Working with these groups helps them in their objectives and certainly takes some of the load off the AWMCC Committee,” Shane added.
Albury-Wodonga last ran a Victorian Senior MX Championship round back in 2015 and for those that remember, it was quite wet, Shane says there is the chance of rain again this weekend.
“It’s likely to be cool and wet, the local forecast shows around 12 degrees and a 90% chance of rain for both days. However only 10mm on Saturday and 5mm on Sunday.”
“If we get that amount of rain it will be beneficial for the track as we haven’t had a lot of rain in the lead up, any more might make conditions a little sticky.”
In terms of the riding, Shane is looking forward to seeing the “big guns” put on a show; riders like Joel Green, Callum Norton and Maddy Brown but he’s more keen to be keeping an eye on the locals.
“Joben Baldwin, Brandon Johnson and Matt Karm have had a good series in their respective classes and will want to finish off well at home.”
“Other club members including Justin Hill, Ben McAliece, Adam Beck, Darren Garlick, Matthew Summers-Hall, Jayden Grimshaw and Gary Wailes are also competing.”
Shane would like to thank the following local businesses for donating equipment and services to the club; Skylift Hire, Cartwright Civil and WHOS Equipment.
“We also wish to thank the organising committee for bringing a round of the Victorian Senior MX Championships back to Albury-Wodonga,” Shane said.
“Finally a big shout out to “Dudes”, after all his hard work on the track he is currently holidaying in Switzerland and will not be here this weekend,” Shane added.
