The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the global governing body of motorcycle racing, issued a media release on Friday, February 5, highlighting Motorcycling Victoria’s Female Participation Program!

Motorcycling Victoria’s (MV) Female Participation Programme is an initiative that has run for four years, creating healthier sporting environments that are safe, accessible, inclusive and equitable to support the participation of women and girls in all areas of motorcycle sport. The programme specifically aims at increasing:
- the number of female participants in all aspects and disciplines of the sport,
- the promotion, exposure and support of women and girls in the sport, competitively and recreationally,
- the opportunities for development and participation as riders, coaches, officials and volunteers.
These aims have been achieved through a series of rider training days, female-only coaching and officials’ courses, promotional opportunities, communications/media strategy and leadership programmes and opportunities for women.
CFM Director Ms Nita Korhonen expressed her appreciation of these remarkable efforts: “Motorcycling Victoria is a great example of how to create safe, accessible and equitable sporting environments for young girls and women, which is crucial to developing their presence in motorcycling. This programme deserved to be rewarded and we hope that it will inspire other clubs, federations, organisations…”
Again this year, the prestigious 2016 FIM Women Award will go to a project or organisation that has significantly contributed to improving and developing the presence of women in all motorcycling-related areas, sporting or non-sporting, and encouraged a greater awareness of women in motorcycling.
Ms Korhonen reminded the success of the very first Award: “The number of candidatures received in 2015 was far beyond our expectations and shows how federations, organisations and even individuals across the world are focusing on increasing the presence of women in motorcycling. We hope to receive at least as many candidatures again this year and hopefully even more!”
The 2016 Award will be presented to the winning project or organisation during the 2016 FIM Gala Ceremony at the end of the year.
