Mildura motocross ace Cody Ryan will look to take back the title of “King of the Murray” at the Magenta Business Solutions – Arena Motocross champion, this weekend. Lewis Woods took out the title in 2017, however he may have a challenge on his hands to keep the title 2 years running.
Ryan, 23, makes the jump to A Grade competition after taking out the B Grade title in the Victorian National Motocross Series in 2017.
One of his first opponents in the top class will be Woods, with the Melbourne based rider having claimed the last two King of the Murray titles.
Over 70 riders are anticipated to take part in the event.
Mildura Motorcycle Club’s motocross representative Jason Hayes said the King of the Murray event was a favorite of both competitors and spectators, especially the Easter visitors to Mildura.
“It is a really big event and always gets a really big turn up. It’s one of the few events riders get to tackle under lights, which they enjoy,” Jason said.
“Most riders love the track. It’s short, technical, well prepared and ‘tacky’, as they say. The type of soil used is really important for grip.
“Most riders will be completing laps in less than a minute, some of the A Grade guys are closer to 40 seconds per lap, but the amount of effort the riders go through during that short time is amazing. So much happens in that time which is great for riders and for spectators.
“This year we will have riders in grades all the way from A through to C, and this year the Pro 50’s have returned. Last year we didn’t get the junior numbers we needed to run the class but it will be great to have them back this year” said Hayes.
“It will be great to have Lewis back and competing, and Cody is an extremely talented rider and always puts on a fantastic display and will have a strong local following.
“There are a lot of locals who take part. It is a really fun event to be part of and there is a position on the start gate for almost everyone.”
Olympic Park will be open to the public from 5pm.
