COLAC Motorcycle Club is ready to go to welcome the country’s best motocross riders when the club hosts the second round of the Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories 2016 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships Presented by Bridgestone this weekend, April 23-24.
Colac MC President Ian McGee is excited about hosting another illustrious Victorian Motocross Championship. “This is the second Victorian Senior Motocross Championship that we hosted.
“The first one was two years ago where we had a few issues with the weather but the weather is looking great this weekend. We’ve got a bit of rain forecast for Thursday. If we get 3-4 millimetres, it’ll be spot on,” Ian said.
“We’ve got the track prepared, it’s ready to go. The facilities have had a clean and are ready to go too,” Ian added.
A strong contingent of local riders will compete for the state’s biggest prizes in motocross on the weekend including Allister Kent (Pro Lites Sponsored by Honda), Zack Rogerson (B Lites), William Atkinson (C Lites), Mick Dorman (Over 30 – under 40), to name but a few.
“Motocross is definitely a popular sport in our part of the world. There’s a lot of bikes around Colac,” Ian added.
“We have a reasonably strong motocross fraternity,” he continued. “We had a couple of really well presented practice days over the last few weeks where we had 60-odd riders attend. Everyone was really happy with the track. We made a couple of changes to the track this year.
“It’s slightly longer and a little bit more technical so I hope anybody that hasn’t been riding here in the last twelve months is prepared for a couple of exciting changes,” he added.
Local rider Allister Kent, who is currently sitting inside the top ten in the Pro Lites class, is getting pumped to ride his local track that he’s helped shape. “I’ve been looking forward to it all year. Being my home track, I got a bit of an advantage.
“Being out there working on the track, I know the layout and hopefully I’ll be able to get some good lap-times in,” Allister, from Elliminyt, added.
“I’m sitting in sixth in the Pro Lites at the moment and after this weekend I hope to be in the top five. That’s what I’m aiming for. It’s a pretty fast field. They’re all pretty fast and do it every weekend at the MX Nationals.
“I’d just like to get a good start, get in that top five, perhaps even in that top three,” Alastair, who also competes in the MX Nationals, said. “I’d really like to thank Rhys Evans Honda in Colac, Vanika Industries, Elite Track, Superior Cabinetry, Spy and Thor for helping me out this season,” Allister praised.
Ian would like to thank every one of his volunteers who has put in the hard yards to get the club ready for round two of the VSMXC. “Hosting event such as this is great, not only financially, but even from an exposure point-of-view, it’s priceless.
You get riders that normally wouldn’t come down to Colac, but then they all seem to enjoy riding our sandy-loam track and love coming back,” Ian added.
