UP TO 291 motocross riders will converge at the Colac Motorcycle Club for the second round of the 2017 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships this weekend, April 29-30.
Colac Motorcycle Club President Ian McGee said: “The numbers are looking good for this weekend. There has been a fair bit of work that has gone into the track and the facilities around the club. We’ve put in a new PA system, and put in more lights so it is lighter around the carpark at night,” he said.
“We’ve made a few modifications to the track from last year to try and make it flow better in the early sections of the track. They seem to be working really well. Anyone who hasn’t ridden the track in a while will find some significant changes to the early parts of the track
“The track conditions are really good at the minute. We’ve had quite a lot of rainfall. We’ve had nearly 90 millimetres in the last week but it’s all draining well and we certainly won’t need to water it this weekend,” Ian added.
The Colac Motorcycle Club will also be organising a fantastic tea on Saturday night. Kids: 6 nuggets, chips and can of soft drink. Adults: Roast lamb beef and pork with mixed vegetables, roast potatoes and gravy all for $10!
Also, if you intend to enter the 2017 Hattah Desert Race that opens on Sunday, April 30, a reminder that Junior entries open from 9am-11am and Senior entries from 1pm-4pm. There can be very limited internet service at Colac at times so you may need to make arrangements for another person to do your entries to ensure that you have entered. Online entries are available here: www.hattahdesertrace.com.au.
Ian says a number of local riders will perform well at their local track this weekend. “Colac is one of those track where not only is it technically difficult due to the layout of the track it’s also difficult because of the sand.
“We’ve had six or seven schools in the last six weeks here at the track so there’s been a lot of kids here who have tried to familiarise themselves with it. There should be some really quality racing here this weekend,” Ian said. Ian would like to thank everyone who has helped out in assisting in the preparation of the track and hopes everyone has a good weekend.
The Colac Motorcycle Club is located on Westwoods Track off Barongrook Road in Barongrook. Racing starts at 9am on both days. For more information on Colac Motorcycle Club please visit: http://bit.ly/2p95ZX3
