222 competitors will converge on the Northwest Victorian Motorcycle Club for the second round of the 2017 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships this weekend, May 13-14.
NWVMC volunteer Kellie Phillips is expecting up to 110 competitors on Saturday and 112 competitors on Sunday. “Up to four months of hard work has gone into the track to make sure it is up to competition-level for the Victorian Senior Motocross Championship.
“We’re really looking forward to it. We’ve resurfaced the track by putting more loam into it. There’s been a lot of tractor work to get it ready,” Kellie said.
Local rider Cody Ryan is currently sitting in second-place in the Husqvarna B Grade Open and is hoping hometown advantage and support will move him into first place. “All eyes will be on Cody Ryan. He rides very well and is looking forward to competing at home. All the locals will be out in support cheering.
“Callum Norton is also coming up to compete,” Kellie added.
Cody says he has been happy with his consistency so far this season. “I’m really looking forward to the second round this weekend. In the first round at Warrnambool, I struggled in the first race as I was just starting to get bearings. I got a much better start in the second race, I started from five and worked my way up to first. By the end of the round, I got a much better start and finished third,” Cody added.
Cody hopes to be able to take out the B Open title this year. “I’d love to take it out. I’ll be putting in a lot of effort this season and hopefully I can tick it off the bucket list,” Cody, who won the Fink Desert Race last year, said. Cody says you can’t beat the adrenalin rush in motocross.
“Hopefully, I can put a good show on.” Cody would like to thank Matt Penny from Magenta Business Solutions and Wagner & Giddings Butcher Shop.
Kellie says the whole club is looking forward to an exciting time this weekend. “I just want to thank everyone who has got behind the club and helped us out with motocross to pull it off especially the motocross committee who have got behind it and have helped made it a success,” she added.
“We’re just so thrilled to be able to put on a great track and event for everyone to come and enjoy,” Kellie added. “It should be a great weekend for everyone to come out and see the seniors in action this weekend.”
