Motorcycling Victoria’s School Holiday Coaching Clinics are geared towards making our children safer motorcycle riders whether it is for motorcycle sport or for riding safely on the road.
Held during school holidays at MV’s State Motorcycle Sports Complex at Broadford, just an hour away from Melbourne on the Hume Highway, children between the ages of 7-18-years-old are taught essential skills to make them a safer motorcycle rider like braking, balance, throttle and clutch control, and the correct body position.
David Capuano, of Essendon, decided to get his young daughters Indiana, 8, and Hollie, 7, involved in the last coaching clinic to learn practical skills that will make them safer riders either competitively or recreationally. “They loved their first School Holiday Coaching Clinic. They thought it was fantastic,” David said.
“They were put out of their comfort zone by doing a few different exercises they normally wouldn’t do just riding around the track or at home. They learnt different manoeuvres, and were taught how to stand-up on the bike, and how to get their backside off the seat, which are all important skills to master,” he added.
They are also taught how to safely navigate obstacles, ride over jumps and be visually aware of what’s in front of them when riding.
Hollie said she had a great time learning safe riding techniques with her friends at Broadford. “I really learnt a lot and I feel like I’m a better rider now,” Hollie said.
Indiana feels the same way. “My confidence has improved and I liked how we were taught cornering and braking, it was lots of fun,” she said.
Indiana is now looking forward to learning more skills at the next School Holiday Coaching Clinics at Broadford’s State Motorcycle Sports Complex on Saturday, April 2.
“The coaching clinics have definitely helped them,” David said. “They have certainly learnt new skills that they never would have learnt from sitting on the sidelines and watching, that’s for sure.”
