THIRTY-eight eager, young riders headed to the State Motorcycle Sports Complex at Broadford for the first School Holiday Coaching Day of 2017.
It was fantastic to also have six coaches on board (Mark Willingham, Glenn Macdonald, David Marsicano, Miller Hinds, Ian Whitehead and Andrew Jones) for the day plus Josh Major and Jack Matthews, two of our Elite Rider Training Camp riders, attend to help out as demo riders. MV thanks all of them for giving up their time for the day!
“Josh and Jack were on hand to demonstrate what the coaches were saying so the younger kids had a visual idea of what they were being asked to do,” MV Sport & Rider Development Manager Mark Vallance said.
“They were able to assist the coaches throughout the day with the skills, techniques and anything else that the coaches might have required of them.
“It’s something we have planned for each of the School Holiday Coaching Days this year, the participating riders will get to see some of our Elite Training Camp riders and ride with them throughout the coaching.”
Josh spent most of his time assisting David Marsicano and Miller Hinds to go through some off-road skills and safety towards riding.
“All the kids involved slowly progressed throughout the day, this coaching was something they normally wouldn’t do so it was great to see them come out of their comfort zone and give 100 per cent at everything that was asked,” Josh said.
“I’d like to thank Mark Vallance for giving me the opportunity to come down to Broadford and pass on some of my knowledge and skill to these riders. I will definitely be back!”
Jack was on the MX track with Mark Willingham and Andrew Jones with kids that were riding a range of bikes from 85’s to 250’s. Here they learnt about different line selections, position on the bike, how to control their bike correctly through a corner and much more.
“As the day went on these kids riding skills improved exceptionally, you could see them concentrating so hard each time they went past,” Jack said.
“I’d like to thank Mark Vallance from MV for asking me to assist these coaches, I thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was great to see the kids improve in both confidence and skills. I’ll be back!”
