FIFTEEN riders will be crowned the best in Victoria as the Swan Hill Motorcycle Club hosts the thrilling final round of the Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories 2016 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships Presented by Bridgestone at Chisholm Park Reserve on July 23-24.
Swan Hill Motorcycle Club president Greg O’Bree has been busy gearing-up his club to welcome the penultimate round of the state’s premier motocross competition for senior riders. “This weekend should be fantastic. The track is looking pretty amazing and just the general conditions at our facilities look pretty good so hopefully it will be a big weekend for the riders,” Greg said.
“Our track maintenance manager Ben Dickenson is pretty adamant that our track will be the best track of the series all year. It’s in pretty good nick,” Greg added.
Local rider Jed Polomka is likewise looking forward to finishing off his season on his hometown track. The 17-year-old competes in the B Lites class and is currently sitting inside the top ten in his debut season: “The season has been pretty good. I was hoping for a top ten finish in the Victorian Senior Motocross Championships in my first year,” Jed said.
“I started off the season outside the top ten. I realised what I had to do to progress so I made some improvements to the bike and started getting fifth-place finishes and now I’m sitting in the top ten overall at the moment which I’m pretty happy with,” Jed added.
Jed is revved-up to be riding on his hometown track for the final round: “I love riding at Swan Hill. It’s probably one of my most favourite tracks in Australia. The track is nice and sandy, it flows well, and the people at the club are friendly – I just love it,” Jed continued. “I’m pretty keen. I’m hoping to make the podium this weekend. I may as well give it a crack as it’s the last round so we’ll see how it goes,” he added.
Jed also plans on competing in Round 8 of the 2016 Motul MX Nationals in Shepparton on Sunday, July 31. “I’d like to get a bit of experience under my belt, and next year just jump right into it; finish Year 12 and start racing full-time,” he said. Jed would like to thank his parents and Steven Jones at AJ’s Motorcycles for all their help throughout the season.
Greg is looking forward to getting the final round finally underway: “There’s a lot involved in organising a VSMXC and the club’s volunteers have done amazing work so a big thanks goes to them. Once the weekend gets underway I reckon it’ll be fantastic for Swan Hill to get an event of this standard out here and hopefully we get a lot of spectators supporting it. It should be a good weekend!” Greg added.
The final round of the Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories 2016 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships Presented by Bridgestone revs into high-gear at Chisholm Park at Sea Lake Swan Hill Road, in Swan Hill at 9am on Saturday, July 23. Free entry for spectators.
