Cody Dyce got his motocross season off to a fantastic start as he took out the Honda 250cc A Grade class at the opening round of the M2R 2016 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships Presented by Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories that took place at Outtrim on March 12-13.
Cody, from Tinamba, won two out of his three motos at the Korumburra Motorcycle Club. “In the first race, I got a shocking start, and when I was about three laps in I fell over in a rut. I got going again, passed two guys, and got third in that moto,” Cody said.
Cody won his second moto by 14 seconds over Lorne’s Callum Norton and Western Australian Caleb Grothues. Cody won by a further 16 seconds in Moto 3 against the likes of Brodie Ellis and Riley Dukes with his fastest lap-time occurring in Moto 2 with a 1:43.326 in Lap 2.
It was Cody’s first race since sustaining a leg injury which heartbreakingly ruled him out of the 2015 Australian Junior Motocross Championships in October. Cody won the 125cc two-stroke (13 to 15-year-old) class at the Australian junior championships in 2014.
“It was my first race back since my injury. I felt good on the bike, doing 15 minute motos. It wasn’t too bad,” Cody added.
Cody says he’s feeling fit and ready for another season. “I’m feeling fit, I’m ready for another year and I’ll see how I go,” Cody, who won the 250cc A Grade class by 23 points in last year’s competition, remarked.
On the track at Korumburra, Cody couldn’t fault it. “The track was really good. It had nice deep ruts and it was fantastically prepared by the whole club,” he said.
“I also enjoyed the battles between Callum Norton and Mason Semmens, which was good. We also had Caleb Grothues who came over from Western Australia. It was really good to ride against a couple of those people,” Cody said.
On his plans for the second round of the 2016 VJMXC at Shipwreck Coast MC just near Warrnambool on April 9-10, Cody said: “I’ll try to continue what I’ve been doing, enjoy it and have fun,” Cody added.
On his goals for the rest of the season, Cody said: “I just want to enjoy it and have fun, mainly, and try and get on a podium for a number of rounds and try and keep it consistent,” he said.
Cody would like to thank Cameron Taylor, Ray Howard, Steven Powell, Yamaha Junior Racing and Krusic’s Ride Park and everyone else who helps supports him throughout the season.
