HORSHAM’S Harli Bryce has a dream to one day make it big in the sport of motocross. His dream will begin next weekend when he competes in his very first two-day motocross competition, the 2016 Shipwreck Coast 2-Day Open, which will take place at Warrnambool on January 23-24.
Harli, a Horsham Motorcycle Club member for nearly two years, hopes to ride very well at Warrnambool, gain experience and hopefully progress through the ranks of the sport.
On competing in next weekend’s competition, Harli said: “I am pretty excited. I’ve been training at the Horsham track for a while now and I’ve done a number of club days,” the 14-year-old added.
“My friend Harry got me involved and I went to a Come ‘n’ Try Day two years ago and I’ve been hooked ever since,” Harli continued. “Motocross is such a fun sport. I really enjoy racing with my mates and being out on the weekends with my family at the track,” Harli said.
“I hope to do alright for my first race and do it safely,” Harli remarked. “I’m a bit nervous but it’s going to be great experience for the rest of my racing career,” he remarked. Harli upgraded his Kawasaki KLX 125 for a RMZ250 in June 2015.
“I’ll just have some fun with it at the moment and if I get good enough, and gain some sponsors, I’ll take it a step further and try and become a professional,” he added.
Harli also hopes to be able to compete in this year’s Victorian Junior Motocross Championships. “I think it would be a good experience but we haven’t decided yet on whether I’ll be competing this year so we’ll just have to wait and see,” he said.
Harli would like to thank his Mum and Dad, as well as his entire family for all that they’ve done for him to get him to this point and a big thank you to the Horsham Motorcycle Club.
The 2016 Shipwreck Coast 2 Day Open takes place on Buckley’s Road, Lake Gillear in Allansford from Saturday, January 23. Racing starts at 9am.
