11-year-old Brodie Gawith will have his eyes firmly on the prize this weekend as Korumburra hosts the opening round of the M2R 2016 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships Presented by Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories on March 12-13.
Brodie, from Waurn Ponds, will compete in his first-ever Victorian Junior Motocross Championships tomorrow.
“I came second in the 65cc class at the opening round (of the Western Region MX Series) at Warrnambool 2 weeks ago and I got the fastest lap-time in C Grade too,” Brodie, who recorded a blistering 02:18.620 in Race 1, said.
“I’m hoping to get in the top five this weekend,” Brodie added.
“I did a training school with Oates MX at Korumburra before so I know the track. It was good fun. I like the big tabletop and the ruts that they have there,” Brodie continued.
Brodie started competing in the Western Region MX Series when he was on his 50cc bike when he was just 8-years-old and has been loving it ever since. “I really like the way I get to go fast and do jumps and get to compete,” Brodie said.
On his goals for the year in the Victorian Junior Motocross Championships, Brodie added: “I’m hoping to get overall second, but at least finish first in some of the rounds.”
Brodie would like to thank his Dad, Tim Gawith, for all his support which includes getting him fresh tyres, taking him to the events, and looking after his bike.
President of the Korumburra Motorcycle Club Graham Bird and his team of dedicated volunteers has been busy preparing the club’s facilities and the track to welcome well-over 300 riders and their families to the South Gippsland region on the weekend, which also includes a record turnout of girls.
“Entries are already up from last year so hopefully it’s a nice, successful and safe weekend. We had a pretty good weekend last year. We had record numbers at last year’s event, especially for the girls, with about 12 participants,” he said.
“We’ve got lots of members around to help out and we hope to see some good racing. These juniors are great to watch,” Graham added.
Round 1 of the M2R 2016 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships Presented by Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories will take place at 966 Outtrim-Leongatha Road in Outtrim this weekend, starting on Saturday, March 12.
