KILMORE EAST’S Billy Horton is targeting a top five overall finish for his 2016 motocross season as the opening round of the 2016 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships kick-starts into action at the Blue Rock Motorcycle Club at Newborough in the Latrobe Valley next weekend, March 5-6.
The 18-year-old has been competing in the state’s premier motocross competition, in both the junior and senior grades, for the last five years and is aiming to finish in the top five in the C-Lites class this season so he can qualify for the country’s most elite motocross competition, the MX Nationals. “I’d like to finish in the top 5 so I can qualify for the MX Nationals,” Billy said.
“I’ve been training really hard lately, going to the gym and I have been putting in a lot of hours on the bike recently to try and achieve that,” Billy said.
Billy competed in the C-Lites grade in the Victorian Senior Motocross Championships and the Under 19s class in the Victorian Northern Region Motocross Series last year. Impressively, he finished in the top 10 in the C-Lites grade in the VSMXC and hopes to build on his success.
“It was a pretty hard competition last year but it was a really good competition,” Billy added.
Billy also finished second overall in the Toolleen Motorcycle Club Championships during his time as a junior.
He would like to thank his Dad, Peter Horton, for all his support at events, and Luke McDonnell from Peter Stevens Motorcycles throughout the years. Billy is also seeking sponsors for the upcoming season and can be contacted at peter.horton07@gmail.com.
The opening round for the 2016 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships takes place at the Blue Rock Motorcycle Club in Newborough, just 2 hours east of Melbourne, in the Latrobe Valley on the weekend of March 5-6.
