Samantha Beecroft is aiming high in 2016, not just on the bike results-wise, but off the bike as well.
The 17-year-old is heading into Year 12 VCE this year where she is studying hard towards becoming a mechanical engineer.
In the off-season, however, she’s been working hard on her fitness and training regularly; using a variety of sports to help her get to where she wants to go.
The 2015 MV Elite Rider Training Camp attendee also does swimming, cycling, tennis and also ballroom and Latin American dancing to help with her fitness and core strength.
It’s been a good start to the year for Samantha, from Yarra Glen, as she competed in the Shipwreck Coast 2-Day Open over the Australia Day weekend at Warrnambool.
“I’ve started off the year well with a second-place in the Ladies Clubman class at the Shipwreck Coast. Local girl Rachel Dendle finished in front of me and Emilee Lewis came in third,” Samantha said.
“There are some really talented female riders and it’s exciting to be on the track with them. The competition was good.”
Samantha is planning on racing at as many events as she can, in both the Women’s class and the U19s class.
“I’ll be doing the Northern Region Series, the Victorian Senior MX Championships, the Women’s class at the MX Nationals (the Australian Women’s Motocross Championship), and might do some of the Gippsland Championship and club days as well. It’s going to be a tough year,” Samantha added.
Asked what tracks she’s looking forward to riding this year, and which she is expecting to provide a bit of a challenge, Samantha quoted a well-known club president as part of her answer: “Swan Hill is a favourite track because it’s a great layout and has good dirt. Another favourite is Horsham because it’s awesome in Horsham!
“I’m a bit anxious about riding at Wonthaggi. I haven’t ridden there since my days on a 50cc and the sand isn’t my greatest surface but I’m looking forward to the challenge,” she added.
Samantha would like to thank her family and friends for their continued support and her sponsors for their ongoing support including First Class Motorcycles, Pick Me Up Mowers, XTM Performance and Brink Boots.
