COLAC local rider Will Atkinson is relishing the chance to compete against some of Australia’s best motocross riders on his home town track when they converge on the Colac Motorcycle Club for the second round of the Honda Genuine Parts & Accessories 2016 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships Presented by Bridgestone this weekend, April 23-24.
Will is currently sitting in fifth-place in the hotly-contested C Lites class in his first-ever Victorian Senior Motocross Championships, just 24 points behind the leader Tom Sunderland.
“The first round was awesome. The track at Blue Rock MC was really fun. It was pretty cool. I’ve only really ridden around Colac,” Will said.
“I’ve been putting in a few hours lately at the track,” Will continued. “Basically, everyone’s there to win a state title. They would love to come first. I’d be happy to get the top position, or the top three. Especially at my home track I’d like to be able to go well,” he said.
On his overall goals in his debut year in the VSMXC, Will replied: “I’d be really happy with a top three finish.”
Will also competes in the 2016 Western Regions MX Series where he also competes in the Seniors C Lites grade and is sitting in second-place, just 34 points behind Josh Andrews. “I got an overall third-place at Portland in March which was good,” he added.
Will loves the feeling of motocross, especially the rush of racing. “It’s not only the adrenaline but it’s also the amount of friendly people that I meet along the way and the places you get to go,” he said.
“I’d like to thank everyone from the Colac Motorcycle Club like Ian McGee and Rod McGee, and all my mates who help me out like Allister Kent, my brother Kurt Aitkinson who has helped me immensely, and Colac Motorcycles who has helped me too,” he added.
