MAFFRA-SALE’S David Allen is gearing-up for the exciting opening round of the 2016 Victorian Interclub Classic Motocross Series that takes place this weekend at Krusic’s Ride Park in Sale, on Sunday, April 10.
The Maffra-Sale Motorcycle Club member has been competing in the sport for five years, used to compete in the sport of motocross, and has been loving it ever since. “It’s a very good social sport. There’s less intensity compared to a motocross meeting, and there’s a good bunch of people involved,” David said.
In 2014 David won the Non-Expert title in the Victorian Interclub Series and finished runners-up in the Expert class in last year’s competition.
The Victorian Interclub Classic MX Series is held over seven rounds starting on Sunday; with Round 2 in Pakenham on May 22, Round 3 on July 10 (location to be decided), Round 4 in Yanakie on August 21, Round 5 (location and date to be decided), Round 6 in Undera on October 9, and the final round at Boag’s Property in Stony Creek on November 6.
David is currently competing on a Suzuki 1979 RM 250. “That’s my main bike that I compete with. I’ve got numerous motorbikes that I ride; it’s becoming an addiction now. It is good fun and relatively cheap because once you get your bike you can’t keep adding to it. In this sport it’s got to be period correct. You can’t have the latest and greatest things on it,” he added.
“We get to ride in some great spots around Victoria: Shepparton, Undera, Ballarat, Yanakie to name a few, and the last round is at Australian champion John Boag’s property in Stony Creek. It’s a highlight for the year as it’s a natural terrain track,” David continued.
“I love the adrenaline. I enjoy progressing in the sport too; each year I manage to get better. I’m a policeman by occupation and I get to talk to a whole different group of people that I get to deal with normally. It’s a good outlet. Catching up with them once a month is what I really enjoy,” he added.
David is aiming for another top three finish in this year’s competition. “If I can get top three this year, I’ll be happy. If not, so be it, I’ll try again next year,” David said. David would like to thank Krusic’s Ride Park.
