A MAXIMUM of 755 competitors will this year take part in the 20th Anniversary of the 2017 Penrite Hattah Desert Race, arguably Australia’s largest desert racing competition.
With the event just 55 days away, which is hosted by the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club, Hattah Race Secretary Gary Leeson could not be happier with how entries have gone for 2017. “We’ve got capacity fields once again and the biggest ever field at the Hattah Desert Race with over 750 entries,” Gary said. Gary added that from the first minute of entries opening on their website there is always a mad scramble to ensure that they are one of the hundreds of bikes that get a spot on the starting-line.
“The 251cc – 450cc 4 stroke Senior class is the highest-entered class this year with 120 entrants. Whilst for the Juniors, the 85cc 2 Stroke & 150cc 4 Stroke 12 to under 16 (Small & Big Wheel), is their most-entered class with 85 entrants,” Gary added.
There is approximately 440 Seniors and 315 Juniors overall entries for the event this year, which includes some of the big names of enduro racing.
“Toby Price, Josh Green, Josh Strang, Shane Watts, Daniel Sanders, Beau Ralston are just some of the big names who have entered the Hattah Desert Race for 2017,” Gary said.
“Nathan Trigg, who has big hopes in a top ten placing in 2017, looks to be one of our biggest local hopes,” he added.
This year also marks the 20th Anniversary of the Hattah Desert Race in its current format with Gary wanting to take a chance to publicly thank everyone who helps put on such a magnificent event.
“The Hattah team is coordinated by Jennifer Gledhill, who also heads-up the Hattah Desert Race Committee, which consists of an unbelievably dedicated group of volunteers from the North West Victoria Motorcycle Club,” Gary added.
“Our current President, Vice President, Treasurer, numerous Life Members of the club, and countless of other much-valued and incredible people come together every year to make this iconic off-road motorcycle event happen – we couldn’t do it without you,” he added.
