From the Penrite Hattah Desert Race Committee:
With only 120 days until Prologue and Junior Race Day, it’s finally time for some updates for this year’s Penrite Hattah Desert Race.
Firstly, our Friday night event: Scrutineering.
2016 sees us shift from the traditional Langtree Avenue venue to Quandong Park, Red Cliffs.
For many reasons, many of which revolve around logistical issues, we have approached one of the local sporting groups – Red Cliffs Football Netball Club, who this year be hosting us for our scrutineering event.
This venue will allow for easier parking and a more timely event. Without the restrictions of the street closure, we are able to set up earlier, which means an earlier start, and more importantly an earlier finish for the competitors.
Catering will be provided by the Red Cliffs Football Netball Club with multiple outlets strategically placed around the facility, along with bar sales.
Live music, kids entertainment, team displays and a lively carnival atmosphere will be sure to keep everyone busy and entertained.
LET’S RACE!!
2016 sees an increase to the junior numbers!! We have made some alterations to the junior pit arrangements which has enabled us to increase junior competitor numbers from 200 to 250. That‘s an extra 50 entries for juniors!! How good is that! This year we have also introduced the 200cc class for juniors.
Sorry seniors, we can’t fit anymore of you in so the numbers will remain at 400, however, you will be back to 8 laps – yep, you read right – 8 laps.
Clubman class has been removed from the program. However, we have introduced an Under 19 (unlimited cc) class.
We will be seeding the top 5 (from last years results) of all categories this year, along with the top 20 overall from last year. Individual riders will be contacted.
Remember that you will need a current National Licence so lets all check our expiry dates! If you need to renew, make sure that it’s done prior to arrival at the event.
The Bad Bits
Unfortunately, we had some issues last year that have forced us to make the unfortunate decision that there will be no camping available at the tracks and Watts Lane this year.
As like most things, this is due to a minority, but it has long term effects for all, and for the event to continue into the future this is what we have to do.
From the Committee of the Penrite Hattah Desert Race and the members of the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club, we look forward to seeing you all in July 2016 for what we are sure will be another fantastic event!
